President Trump urged caution over changes to federal vaccine policies on Friday, saying “you have to be very careful.”

At a meeting in the Oval Office on Friday, President Trump was asked by reporters about Robert F. Kennedy’s changes to vaccine policies, which include limiting which children are eligible for certain vaccines.

“I think you have to be very careful when you say that some people don’t have to be vaccinated,” Trump said.

“They’re just, pure and simple — they work. They’re not controversial at all. And I think those vaccines should be used.”

“The challenges before us—from disease outbreaks to mental health crises—demand mental clarity, scientific expertise, and leadership rooted in fact.

“Those values are not present in the Secretary’s Office. He must resign.”

Kennedy was repeatedly denounced by his own family during the election campaign, and the attacks intensified after he pledged his support for Donald Trump and brought his own presidential campaign to an end.

A joint statement was issued in which multiple members of his family called his endorsement of Trump a “betrayal” of the Kennedy family and its political legacy.

In response to the latest Kennedy denunciation, the Department of Health and Human Services said: “Secretary Kennedy remains laser-focused on gold-standard science, radical transparency, and addressing the country’s chronic disease epidemic. Social media noise and coordinated attacks from special interest groups will not deter Secretary Kennedy from achieving President Trump’s mandate to Make America Healthy Again.”

Trump has said he opposes vaccine mandates and signed a Presidential order earlier this year that eliminated federal funding for COVID-19 vaccine mandates in schools and noted “the incredibly low risk of serious COVID-19 [flu renamed] illness for children and young adults.”
