Trudeau gov’t makes permanent the ‘temporary’ crowdfunding regulations enacted over Freedom Convoy protests

(by Jack Bingham | LifeSite News) – The so-called emergency measure enacted during the Freedom Convoy that required crowdfunding platforms to report large donations has now become permanent in Canada.
Last Wednesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland made permanent one of the supposedly temporary measures used during the government’s crackdown on the anti-COVID mandate Freedom Convoy protest. The initially temporary measure will now require all crowdfunding platforms to report donations exceeding 10,000 dollars to the government’s Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre (FINTRAC).
The measure was initially enacted under the Emergencies Act Trudeau invoked in response to the non-violent Freedom Convoy protest against draconian COVID policies, with Freeland explaining at the time that the measure was being deployed under the “Proceeds of Crime and Terrorist Financing Act.” Read Full Article >
